Schuco at The Mabileau
It's not just 'paper art' here at The Mabileau - We have an obsession with all things motoring! What started as 'just a few Dinkys for display' soon spread, like a virus into 'Oooh look a nice little model' and we 'discovered Schuco!
As with everything at The Mabileau, once we capture it - we research it & research shows that Schuco began as a toy company called 'Spielzeugfirma Schreyer & Company' in the 'toy manufacturing town' of Nuremburg, quite wisely the name was soon abbreviated to Schuco and has stayed that way (if we ignore an unfortunate bankrupcy episode in 1976) until the present day!
So why do we love Schuco models? Quite simply the attention to detail and quality is unsurpassed- much as we love and support Dinky & Corgi - Schuco are the next level. The majority of the models are clockwork and have little extra features - For example 'The Examico' has working gears, or one of our favourites - 'The Acoustico' has a working horn. The quality stands out and stands the test of time - we have models from the 1950's with smooth clockwork action and still doing what they were designed to do - A little squirt of WD40 and away you go!
In recognition of the collectability of models Schuco also now produce a range of collectable editions and these are a bit special - ranging from Type 35 Bugatti, Stirling Moss in the Mercedes and a full range of Mercedes historical racing models in a range called 'Die Walt der Silberpfeile' (The legend of the Silver Arrow). Although not cheap Schuco models reflect excellent value for money and are very tactile!
We have quite a collection at the Gallery - some of which may even be for sale! and, if you've never handled a Schuco before - you'd be welcome to 'come & play!!
