This original hand coloured litho depicts the London - Manchester air race of 1910. It was more of a challenge than a race as Lord Northcliffe - owner of the Daily Mail had put up a prize of £10,000 for the first aviator to fly from London - Manchester in under 24 hours. The image is of Louis Paulhan in his 80hp Gnome aircraft. The challenge turned into a race between Paulhan & the Englishman Claude Grahame-White and turned into one of the most watched spectacles of the year, which certainly fulfilled Lord Northcliffes need for publicity for his newspaper. This litho is in good condition and is its original wooden frame. It has not undergone restoration.
